January 24 - 27, 1973 Vietnam War Over




Wednesday, January 24, 1973

It has been a very mild day. I went down to Betty’s a little while in a.m. Marianne called in PM and Betty went back to Portland with her and Walt picked her up and they went out for supper and called at Dawn’s on their way home and played cards and had a very good time. I stay down there for supper and until they came home. This is been such a nice mild day.



Thursday, January 25, 1973 LBJ Funeral

We watched on colored TV the funeral services for Lyndon Baines Johnson, 36th president of the United States. It was a very nice service. I did a dite of washing. Kids home from school. No mail. Walt didn’t work in honor of the Johnson funeral services. Billie had to work. Not so warm today.In evening Betty, kids and I over to Esther’s to celebrate Billie and Vinces’ birthdays. Susan and children still there.



Friday, January 26, 1973

A nice day. I done regular work. Washed windows. Lloyd called. In early p.m. Bill took me to town shopping. Watched afternoon programs. Esther went to town with Fern and Lloyd. Much talk on TV now of the ending of the war in Vietnam. The POW soldiers will be starting home in two weeks.



Saturday, January 27, 1973 PEACE TREATY signed today North and South Vietnam and its allies

Clear in a.m. I done regular work. Made brownies, custard. Lloyd called. Peace TREATY signed in Paris, France today after 11 years of fighting, bombing, killing and destruction in Vietnam. Walt worked today.
