May 9 - 12, 1966 Breaking Ground On Fern's New Home

Monday, May 9, 1966 Snow again

Snowed and rained again today. Betty up, we washed and took clothes to the laundromat today. Did a dite of shopping. Came home, got supper. Took Betty and children home. Mike called her. Watched TV in evening. Dorothea’s letter came. What a mess she is having, will be glad when it is over.

Tuesday, May 10, 1966

Cold, snow and windy but sunny after such a miserable day yesterday. I went down to Ferns. We picked over her back kitchen and cleaned up. Phony Harmon came, measured up for house foundation etc. Also put in Lloyd’s transformer for electricity. Fern and I picked over some things upstairs. I called Betty, she didn’t seem very happy.

Wednesday, May 11, 1966 Carmen Okay

A real nice day. I went down to Betty’s early, we got kids ready to go to Boston. The baby came up here with me and stayed all day. She was very good. Betty got good reports from Carmen’s test, all negative. She hasn’t got to go back even for a yearly checkup unless she is or has a asthma attack. Mike met them in Portland from Auburn. They went up on the bus and Betty said she enjoyed his company very much all day. Had a real nice time. Carmen was happy. Mike gave Betty good news about her support from him. We hope he will have good luck in his new life he is wanting back. Billie helped Lawrence tonight at Brownfield. Began digging Lloyd’s cellar.

Thursday, May 12, 1966

A fair day, not too cold. I had Carmen up for the day. She had such a good time. Carmen and I picked our first mess of dandelions today. Joy called. Aunt Ava and Kennard called. Betty and girls here for supper. We are much relieved about Carmen. Finished digging the cellar at Fern and Lloyd’s.
