May 2 - 5, 1957 Forest Fire in Oxford/West Poland



Thursday, May 2, 1957 Another Cold Windy Day

Awful cold tonight. In forenoon Dolores, Dot, Lorraine and Wanda Jean called. I cooked most of the day. Last night there were five little pigs born. Late this afternoon Sen. Joseph Raymond McCarthy died. He was a nice smart man and was doing a lot for country. Another big forest fire at Oxford and West Poland.



Friday, May 3, 1957

Cloudy and awful cold all day. Bill and Billie each got in a full week. Mama down to Ferns today to spend the day and to look at Uncle Os cards. My back bothering me today. Got a letter from Dorothea today.



Saturday, May 4, 1957

A nice day and warmer. I went to Portland with Blanche, they bought a power lawn mower. Billie fenced and Deryl (?) Graffam helped him. Kay here all day. I bought my new shoes today Porteous Mitchell’s. In p.m. I cleaned up the kitchen, went to town.



Sunday, May 5, 1957

A nice day. A little windy in p.m. I cooked this forenoon. Bill and Billie set lane fence over. Ernest and Irene Batchelder called. Betty to church. Betty cleaned up the cars. In p.m. Kennie, Dot and Karen called. I wrote letters. Over to Aunt Linnie’s in late p.m.
