The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Wednesday, June 22, 1994

 

A nice day. I’m improving more. I’m glad things are coming along, better walking etc. Betty and others went up to camp. I sat on porch today. Esther was home today.

 

 

 

Thursday, June 23, 1994

 

It has been a very nice day. Windy but a beautiful day. I sat out on porch all forenoon. Carmen came early. She worked most all forenoon. Dorothea came and worked in p.m. Got a good supper. The PA came and worked with me for a while. Also I’m very good, pulse etc.

 

 

 

Friday, June 24, 1994

 

Nurse came today. Carmen and Betty here this morning, done up the work. Esther came this morning. She was here today and got the supper. Dorothea, Betty, Betty Smith, Carmen and Joy took Betty out to a good bye supper at Blackhorse. Walt got home middle of p.m. from his brother and sisters in laws. Had a nice long talk from them. Cameron got hurt again today. I hope he will be okay.

 









 

 

Saturday, June 25, 1994

 

Today a miserable rainy day. All day. And I mean rain. Dorothea and Carmen worked all day cleaning. I got my bath today. I took a good nap today. Zak up late this p.m. Dorothea got a good supper. Well Tom and Kim done a lot of preparing for the party.
